Hi, I'm

Jorge Garcia, MA, LPC

Hi, I’m Jorge Garcia, a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in PTSD/trauma, self-compassion, and mood disorders. If you’re ready to be as kind to yourself as you are to others but aren’t sure where to begin, I’d love to help you explore whether we’re a good fit for working together.

About Jorge

I enjoy learning about why things are the way they are, which aligns with my work in understanding how our past experiences shape us. In therapy, I aim to help you become curious about the “why” behind your thoughts and behaviors, so you can use that understanding to feel more in control and make choices that align with your goals.

Outside of therapy, I enjoy walking my 2 dogs at the dog park, listening to sci-fi/fantasy audiobooks, spending time with family, and eating too much sour candy.

Education:

I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Sam Houston State University and have worked with a diverse range of clients over the past 7 years, from those recovering from PTSD to individuals seeking support for managing overwhelming emotions. I have worked with clients who are struggling with the effects of trauma, whether from a single event or multiple experiences. This includes a wide range of traumatic experiences, including childhood abuse/neglect, sexual assault, and domestic violence among others.

I’m passionate about using evidenced-based approaches to help clients navigate unhelpful patterns and the effects of negative life events. My training includes Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR), Written Exposure Therapy for PTSD, and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), all of which are proven methods that can help break free from the grip of past experiences and move towards a healthier, more empowered you.

My Philosophy:

Understanding yourself is more complicated than it seems. Our life experiences shape the way we see ourselves, interact with others, and move through the world. The ways we cope and respond to life based on these experiences often begin as helpful, but don’t always stay that way. Together we’ll explore your patterns with curiosity, keeping what serves you and shifting what doesn’t. If you feel stuck and unsure of what to change, we’ll work on tuning into your emotions, replacing self-criticism with kinder, more realistic ways of thinking, and taking steps to feel like you’re actively participating in your life instead of watching it pass you by.

Empathy and Understanding:

Talking about difficult experiences, especially ones you have never said out loud, can feel overwhelming. Being able to explore these experiences without judgment is often the first step in moving past them. Together, we’ll work to understand what your brain is doing instead of just fighting against it, helping you move forward rather than feeling stuck. Even if you don’t think what you’ve experienced qualifies as traumatic, I encourage you to reach out to explore how it may still be impacting you.
